Melbourne University Chemical Society

The Melbourne University Chemical Society (MUCS) engages the university community and the general public on chemistry related issues through events and seminars, including a public lecture series that encompasses all aspects of chemistry.

Seminar speakers are drawn from the School, the wider University community, other Australian and overseas universities and industry. The lecture series includes annual Memorial Lectures for former staff members Don Stranks and Geoff Feutrill. In addition, in alternate years MUCS presents the Lady Masson Memorial Lectures jointly with the University. MUCS has held meetings every year since its inception in 1903.

Chemistry Postgraduate Society

The Chemistry Postgraduate Society (CPS) was formed in 1997 and maintains an active profile today. The Society was originally formed by the postgraduate student body to give research students in the School a voice.

Staff and students are spread over two locations (the Masson Building and the Bio21 Institute). The CPS remains strong and active, holding many functions, including an annual dinner, trivia nights, BBQs, sporting events and fund raising activities. Functions are generally held every couple of months and are supported by the Graduate Student Association.

Elected annually, the committee is made up of research students undertaking PhD, MPhil, MSc and BSc(Honours) degrees from across the school of Chemistry. The current committee is listed below.

Founding secretary Colette Boskovic is now a Professor in the School.
