Chemistry is the central science. We provide a stimulating environment to study a broad range of chemistry topics and to carry out research with great depth to solve both fundamental and applied scientific problems that address many grand challenges we face today.
Many of our student awards are supported by private bequests and gifts as well as donations from industry. We hold an awards night once a year to celebrate the achievements of our students and thank our generous donors.

Contribute to the Masson Fund
Established in July 2018, the Fund honours Sir David Orme Masson (1858–1937), Professor of Chemistry here from 1886 to 1923. Masson was a pioneering teacher and researcher who helped shape Australian scientific and public life. He was instrumental in founding the organisation that later became the CSIRO, and his legacy is marked not only on our campus—through the Masson Theatre and Masson Road—but as far afield as Antarctica, where both a mountain range and an island carry his name.
The Masson Fund is built on a partnership between the school and its supporters—an enduring example of what happens when donations are combined with institutional commitment.
Contributions to the Fund directly strengthen student scholarships, research opportunities, and the school’s capacity to respond to big scientific challenges.
