Two PCCP Articles from Soncini Research Group Named HOT Papers
Congratulations to Simone Calvello and A/Prof Alessandro Soncini, for having their paper “Effect of Magnetic Anisotropy on Direct Chiral Discrimination in Paramagnetic NMR spectroscopy " selected as a 2020 PCCP Hot Article.
In this work the authors present a complete theory for the accurate calculation of the Generalised Nuclear Shielding Polarizability s(1), a novel NMR property of the magnetic nuclei of a chiral paramagnetic molecule previously introduced by the same authors. The property s(1) measures the bulk electric polarization PIND induced by the combined effect of the magnetic field B and the precessing nuclear spin mI during a pulsed NMR experiment, and since it has opposite sign for the two enantiomers of a chiral paramagnetic molecule, it allows for chirality to be directly detected in a pulsed NMR experiment.
This is the second paper this year from the Soncini Research Group to be extremely well received by the Editors of PCCP, and be selected as a HOT Article. You can read more about the second 2020 PCCP Hot Article titled "Design of annulene-within-an-annulene systems by the altanisation approach. A study of altan-[n]annulenes" here.
