ARENA Funding Success for Dr David Jones

Dr David Jones has received $1.29 million dollars from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency ARENA to examine self-assembled singlet fission materials to improve silicon solar cell efficiency.

Singlet fission uses the excess energy in high energy photons, currently lost as heat in solar cells, to drive the spin allowed generation of two triplet excitons from a single high energy singlet exciton. Using specifically designed materials to control the generation of an initially correlated triplet pair and subsequent dephasing it is expected that significant solar cell efficiency enhancements can be achieved. The work will be completed with UQ and ANU.
